Forgot the gait!

First half of this month had been very trying for me. First my 2 and half year old daughter brought home the eye infection from her school and spreaded to every one including me and my wife. Then I got ankle sprain.

Later my daughter also developped viral pneumonitis and then few pustules . . . In between my wife had miscarriage . . .

By god's grace, the bad time is getting over.

The interesting thing which I would like to narrate to all of you is my suffering with ankle sprain.

On a wednesday evening as I came home for a tea, I found my daughter playing with my servants (sorry, home assistants). I thought of spending some time with her. To encourage her and to give her the glimpse of tricks of football, I was trying to push the ball through the servants (only 2 in number). She was enjoying that . . . Suddenly my left ankle inverted! I had sprain of the lateral ligament of the left ankle. It was a killing pain for few minutes.

As I was walking towards my flat, my security was suggesting in brocken Tamil to walk with jerk (JHAAR KE). I knew the childhood technique, but the pain was too bad to do that.

I had already taken almost a week off from the operation theatre due to conjunctivitis. I cant afford to call my boss to say that I cant come due to this non sense activity of mine . . .

Also the pain was tolerable after the crepe bandage. So I went to the clinic. But by the end of the clinic, the pain was so severe that I needed help to walk back to my car! While on my way back home, I called my wife to the ground floor to help me reach home. By the time I was on my bed, I had severe intolerable pain. Usually I avoid medicines till it can be. But now I could not. My nephew brought some Brufen. But I did not take alcohol! I did not want to give a double dose to my kidney.

Next day I went to get the X- Rays. No bony injury. My orthopedician colleague said that the pain will take 3 weeks!

I cant afford 3 weeks of bed rest!

Earlier in 2002 I had ligament sprain of the lateral ligament of the left wrist. While trying to take a sudden right cut with my 2 wheeler in heavy traffic, I had the sprain. Though the severe pain subsided within few days, I used to get sudden cruciating pain. Those days I was posted in general surgery where for abdominal surgeries I had to hold the retractors and pull them . . . I used to be afraid and so cautious about direction of the pull . . . Luckily I could manage those days without any professional compromise. I was afraid how is it going to be this time.

I took 3 days rest at home. But I was feeling bad for my unit and my boss. I cant take leave like this. I called my boss that I can join the hospital! He welcomed me unwillingly (?).

I used to tie crepe bandage on the left ankle. It was uncomfortable to walk with that. Daily I used to change the style. Over few days I found the most comfortable way of applying the crepe bandage. Slowly the original pain subsided . . . and new pain started in the heel! Because of hypoperfusion caused by the tight strangulating crepe bandage? I tried to walk without the crepe bandage which I felt better. Pain was there, daily in new location!

Unknowingly my foot was taking a new posture every day!

Slowly I percieved that the pain at the lateral aspect of the foot is gone and other places have apeared! Patiently I kept walking carefully . . . my foot changing the posture daily . . . every moment. On and off I took medicine.

As pain came down further and I was able to stand on my foot, I was surprised to note that I did not know that which part of foot should touch the ground! I was making effort to make myself comfortable by comparing my stance on right foot. Even the pain was not fully over, it is still there - up to the level of discomfort. But its not limiting my activities. Or I cant afford to alow the pain to limit me. 3 days ago I could stand for 8 hours for a surgery. But while walking, I need to recollect how to walk! Which side of foot should touch the ground first? Which side of foot I need to put my weight the maximum? Which side of the foot should push the ground to take off?

All these are taught in gait and stance. But when I suffered personaly, I forgot the stance! I had to do research on myself to make myself comfortable.

Just like that.

Thought you people may find it interesting.

Samastipur: An insensitive/ interesting place

Today there is assembly election in few districts in Bihar including Samastipur. As per Bihar government assessment, all the districts accept Samastipur is sensitive!
What does it mean?
Mr. Lal Krishna Advani was arrested in 1991 at Samastipur following which whole of India was reeling under curfew for few weeks!
But Samastipur was calm!
No deaths, no fire!
Earlier in 1975 the then railway minister was killed on the railway platform at Samastipur when he was speaking at a meeting to inaugerate the platform!
In the highly charged days of Laloo, none of the strikes called by any political party used to be successful at Samastipur (by the standards of the local public - you can go anywhere uninterupted, will get the vehicles . . .)!
Is Samastipur a boring place?
Are people not interested?
NO!
Its just that people there have understood the core issues of life. That too in hard ways.
Samastipur was carved out in Year 1972 from the districts of Darbhanga and Muzaffarpur. Well connected place by train and bus. The district town is around 90 km from Patna. This place is connected to Delhi and Howrah by train and NH 28 and 103 to different places in India.
An administration centre for of the East Central Railway before; till 1970s there were several industries and small scale industries which included two sugar factory, paper mill (Thakur paper mill), jute Mill (Rameshwar jute Mill, Muktapur) and railway factory (Wagon wheel Factory).

Samastipur is rich in agriculture, because of its fertile plain. Tobacco, chilli, turmeric, beetle leaf (Paan), maize, rice and wheat are the main crops. Leechi and mango fruits are grown in abundance.
Starting from late 1960s, one by one the heavy industries started shutting down. Starting from paper mill, recurrent closures of the jute mill and then ultimately the closure of the Sugar mill in Laloo regime. All these retrogressive activities left the people to learn the hard lessons of life.
At present, people are left alone to live their lives by selling the green vegetables for which Pusa is famous (thanks to the agriculture university probably) on daily basis. Sugarcane producers have fallen back to fishery! Annual flood has broken the caste and religious barriers! Tobacco farmers are fighting the credit of the VYAPAREES (buisenessmen - who cheat more than doing buiseness). Chilli, turmeric and garlic are bought at 2 Rupees Kilo at the agriculture marcket by the buisenessmen and sold after few months at more than 100 rupees kg in the same marcket!
Last 40 years people have survived despite of the system, the state and the government!
And we know it all bone deep. That politics is to make the politicians stronger! Its no way going to make any difference with the common mass.

So, we are not tensed at all!

So, Samastipur is insensitive! Towards politics alone!

Samastipur is bounded on the north by the Bagmati River which separates it from Darbhanga district. On the west it is bordered by Vaishali and some part of Muzaffarpur district, on the south by the Ganges, while on its east it has Begusarai and some part of Khagaria district.

All of historic inportance!

Literacy rate is above national level - around 73%!

Home of many well known leaders like Shri Satya Narayan Sinha, freedom fighter and a prominent member of Indian National Congress, who was accommodated by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in his first cabinet. Satyanarian Sinha, who was elected to the Indian Parliament four times (1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Lok Sabha) also served as a governor. Baliram Bhagat became a cabinet minister in the Indian government later, and also served as speaker. A yadav from the famous village of yadav's in Samastipur where in the years of Laloo he was insulted by his caste men and lost elesction to a non identity in 1991! Karpuri Thakur, a socialist leader of National stature became Chief Minister of Bihar twice, first in 1967 and then in 1977. Shri Anugrah Narayan Singh a great congress leader also served as an education minister of Bihar during congress region from Samastipur district. Pandit Yamuna Karjee, who was one of the pillars of Kisan Movement was from Deopar village in Pusa, Samastipur.

Supreme Court on Live in Relationship: Drifting away from Hindu Marriage act?

Live in relationship has come up as an answer to the throttling clauses of the Hindu marriage act and the cheating, "buiseness" and "politics" of marriage prevalent in our society which leads almost allways to unequal marriage.
Though I am sure every one will agree with my above remark but for those who frown on my terms "buiseness" and "politics" in marriage, please re- analyse and if still not agreeing, please see any of the serials on any of the channels and if any one of them have theme other than marriage, please inform me.
Recent supreme court verdicts are path- breaking.

http://www.dnaindia.com/india/report_what-makes-a-live-in-legal-supreme-court-explains_1455884
So, are we becoming better? Life as a couple (married?) easier? Or we are headed towards more chaos? If we go on this way, will we not increase the number of spincetres and orphans . . . lawlessness? . . . And increasing burden on the courts and income of the lawyers?
http://www.dnaindia.com/india/column_is-live-in-relationship-like-a-title-suit_1450833
Or, is it not time to mend Hindu marriage act before it becomes too late to make it broad based and make it all inclusive? Or are we going to let people carry on their way to make law a mute spectator? . . . And after some time accept the way of living as supreme court accepted the Live - in - Relationship legal?
Also funny is use of the term "kept" which from my childhood I have been under the impresion that its an unparlimentary word.
http://www.yehhailife.com/tag/india-supreme-court-live-in-relationship-judgment/
Although I know that even the bad words have some meaninng and have place in life and law and medicine deals with abnormal conditions of life and so these words do have some place, but one expects the "best" from the supreme court.

Bihari

For Biharis, caste has been the most important identity till recently. Although other state people for their convenience coined the term long ago. Acceptence of "BIHARI" as an identity for biharis by the biharis, is a recent phenomenon. Lets see how it grew.
It happened when due to 40 years (congress - Laloo- Rabari) of ignorant rule left people from the state orphan. When this ignorant rule had started, in national and international affairs, biharis did matter; but the identity was not as a bihari. Although history of Bihar is full of migrations, in recent past immediately before and after independence it was not that rampant. Then only highly qualified people(like IAS/ IITians) for better career options, people going for pilgrimage or highly poor but ambitious ones used to leave Bihar. By 90s, even a simple middle class to earn his daily living and sometimes even to safeguard his life, had to leave to Delhi and Mumbai.
In late eighties, when "Bihari" had started becoming an abusive, unparliamentary word on the roads of Delhi, in fact Biahri middle class (including our MPs) was in slumber. They woke up when in 90s they had to look for their living on the roads of Delhi and Mumbai. And then rickshaw pullers to doctors to IAS from Bihar, all were treated alike by their coleagues! Doctors were beaten up in Mumbai - 5 years before Raj Thakarey started spitting venom - Pramod Mahajan was alive- his comment - Biharis come here to read - they should not try to boss here! It came on TV also.
And the worst was when a minor boy was killed in the bus in mumbai and the home minister justified the act of the stamp paper corrupt police officer! After all these slowly the identity of "BIHARI" is coming up.Otherwise if an aristocrat Bihari was called as "BIHARI", he used to shout - 'dont call me a Bihari'! Later when it became usual, and those from Bihar who used to think themselves as "special" among Biharis, their aristocracy was deflated, then identity of BIHARI came to the fore.Still its not complete, not mature enough. It will take another 25 years for this identity to grow. Then every one even in Newyork, Mumbai . . . will call a Bihari with respect.I will Wait for that time. ..But till then what will happen?

More Birth Places to be determined!

In the same vein -

Jerusalem mosque is considered to be the place where messenger muhammed had descended down after a heaven tour!

http://in.news.yahoo.com/48/20101006/804/tnl-how-each-judge-reached-the-precise-b.html

leave other countries . .
Our own Karunanidhi is worried that birth place of Cholas is not known . . . . But I know few other informations about the contemporary King - the Emperor Ashoka the great -
ASHOKA had a rough face - due to POX
No girl wanted to marry HIM . . .
AGAM KUAN (the well of unmeasured depth) still exists - where he used to kill all his opponents including the girls who refused to marry him!
If interested to visit . . . tell me!

More Birth-Places To Be Determined In a lighter vein, with malice towards none, and with utmost respectfor the Law of the Land:Now that it is clear that Hon'ble Allahabad High Court, including itsLucknow Bench, has taken upon itself the onerous task of identifyingthe exact square metre pieces of land on this earth where mythical, legendary, folklore and imaginary persona were born (!!!), whom thepeople believe to have been born, as a result of their religiousfaith, or otherwise, without first fixing and laying down as per lawas to when that event happened, if it ever happened, and as to whetherthe mythical persona did ever exist as a human being, as believed bythe people, or not, and as to whether the particular myth, the legend,or the folklore regarding a King Rama was copied in India fromThailand's similarly named ancient City of Ayodhya, or the Thaisborrowed the myth, the legend, and the folklore, and the Ayodhya (!!!)from India couple of thousand years ago, we can expect some more path-breaking judgments from the Hon'ble High Court in this series. It is reliably learnt that a few more countries have shown interest inavailing of this expertise of Hon'ble Allahabad High Court, and, withrequests for waiver of un-necessary legal issues like jurisdiction, afew more suits are going to be filed soon, specially from Greece, before the Hon'ble Allahabad High Court, praying for thedetermination of the exact square metre pieces of land on the face ofthis Earth where some of the Western mythical, legendary and folklorepersona, like their numerous Greek Gods (like Jupiter), were actuallyborn, if they were ever born !!!After that, it is reliably learnt that some people from a not soancient country, the U.S. of A., which lacks a history ancient enoughto be able to confer upon their mythical /legendary/ folklore heroesthe status of Gods, may also perhaps file similar suits, praying forthe determination by Hon'ble Allahabad High Court of the exact squaremetre pieces of land on this Earth where their comparatively recentlyimagined/ born/ created Heroes like Superman, Spiderman, Batman,Phantom etc. were actually born, if they were ever born !!!Seems like the Hon'ble Allahabad High Court is going to keep itselfvery busy in the 21st Century, determining birth- places of peopleborn, or supposed to have been born, or believed to have been born, asa matter of faith, in the last couple of thousand years, beforeChrist, as well as after Christ. We can only request the Executive, the Government of India, to assist the Hon'ble Allahabad High Court inthis onerous task, by sanctioning some more positions of Hon'bleJudges, both at the Allahabad and Lucknow benches of the Hon'ble HighCourt, and then request the Hon'ble Chief Justice of India, andCollegium of the Hon'ble Supreme Court, to include ancient History asan additional essential qualification, apart from the Ll. B., for theJudges to be appointed to the Hon'ble Allahabad High Court !! May theGods be with them !!Sudhir Kumar

BAARE TE LALAT BILALAT DWAR DWAR DIN

Friends,
I respect him for many reasons. Not just the verdict, while writing the verdict his 250 odd pages are worth reading.
He has been the most precise, yet the most impressive!
His perception of the Muslim community vis a vis India is fantastic.
Ayodhya's Ramajanm bhoomi- babari mosque is still alive because it has such an importance! Otherwise it might have died as other issues!
And as wisely appreciated by him as well, I appreciate the greatness of the contemporary muslims and muslim cleriks who accepted the excesses done and allowed the Hindus to pray inside the mosque 500 years ago! Otherwise Hindus could have never been able to do it!
I bow my heads to those great souls . . . and to you!
With all due respect I want to send these few words to clarify his questions and to all those involved in this issue-

http://in.news.yahoo.com/43/20101004/812/tnl-why-didn-t-tulsidas-mention-ram-temp.html

about while writing RAMACHARITMANAS why Tulasidas did not mention the issue of demolition of the temple -
BAARE TE LALAT BILALAT DWAR DWAR DIN
JANAT HAUN CHAAR PHAL CHAAR HIN CHANAK HAUN
"after roaming from gate to gate whole day, if could get 4 grains in begging and that too of bengal gram, I would feel I have got all the 4 "PHAL" (ARTHA (property), KAAM (sex), DHARMA (. . . ?religion) and MOKSHA (freedom from birth and death))!"
Thats just an indication.
And in my memory I have not heard even a single word in any of his writings other than this.
And, with my father, I am having adequate knowledge about the Hindi literature . . . specialy about Tulasidas.
Obviously, I have a degree only in Medicine not in literature.
Still, if one can give any more examples of Tulasidas writing about the contemporary society, I would never appear on any public forum on net or in real.
Why only Tulasidas, none of his contemporary writers like Meera Bai (did she mention ever about Prithvi Raj Chauhan? About Maharana pratap bravery or cowardishness), Surdas, not even Kabir Das!
But one thing is sure, it was only during the 150 years of Mooughal specialy only 2 of them - Akbar and Shahjahan that all these 4 people excelled!
Why after Kalidas . . . Chand Bardai . . . and such a long gape?
Was there no one to write about sufferings of the masses at that time? Was there no sufferings for the masses at that time?
No! The sufferings end today or tomorrow. And those who make them the only issues, are forgotten! Sooner than later! Thats the world! Tell me one exception. I will give you one example - see how fast PREMCHAND is disapearing from the bookstalls!
So, To Justice Khan and all others, humbly and respectfully my lord!
And all my loving brothers!
Not only those who forget the past, only those who dont leave the bitter things for the future to remember /guess, could cross the boundary of time and geography in this world.. . .
does any one remember who were the people exactly involved in constructing the mosque - yes, but does any one remember who was the first to claim it to be a temple? No! But the issue exists! Because of its nature! Those who were its perpetrators got lost and will be lost . . . on the sands of time. Very soon . . . very - very soon!
My Lord, Hinduism has not been under attack for just last few hundred years. It has been under attack since birth of Budhdhism in written history and probably from the time of its own existence by "SHRAMANS" philosphicaly. But Hidus have had revivals . . . after every upheaval. And every time they have forgiven and forgot the past! ??? Because no one left the bitter story for the future to remember. Or those who did otherwise were forgotten!
And Gandhi's non violence succeeded not because other thoughts were baseless, because with poor, suppressed masses of India, the non violent way of protest suits well! Tulasidas would not had been dolt enough to not to appreciate the needlessness to provoke the mass by reminding them of the burning issues!
That is what a father does when his son has to go for studies for better future!
At present if a person is getting a good job and joins the aristocratic society, he wants to overhaul his parent outlook! Or else forget them! So much so that courts have to interfere now!
Then what about those who are creating the issues at present?
It is not an unprecedented situation.
Politicians will sell their daughters if thats the way left for their survival! Universal . . . worldwide!
Even in USA!
The fact that the controversial site was burning for last 60 years is the best example!
If politicians were sincere, they could have solved it easily and earlier. And politicians include not only MPs and Ministers, even the officers and lawyers of different organisations . . . trusts . . . are doing politics . . . to exploit the common mass, their emotions to imrove their prospects.
So, is it related with Hinduism?
No, it has got multiple leases of life absolutely due to need of pliticians! Of different types!
The purly religious activity was only one - that the muslim clerik allowed the Hindu prayers . . . and the Hindus entered the mosque maintaining its sanctity.. . .
There are so many other mosques side by side of the temple in this country, in no other mosque hindus rally to pray . . . not even to other mosques of Ayodhya! I personaly know the relationship of the Kashi Vishva Nath temple and the Mosaque besides it - I was guided to the location by a Muslim Clerik only . . . Still mosques at other places have no such history of dual existence!
I accept your conclusion that demolition of any temple to construct the mosque could not be proved. But still this "issue" remained in the heart of the masses for 5 centuries . . . without Tulasidas even mentioning it!. . . Is that something to do with Hinduism?
Thats for the Hindus to ponder about!

ARYAN and DRAVIDIAN - Non- sense by Responsible people

I have been listenniing these things since my childhood but I am fed up of all these now.
The one of the most senior politicians in this country, one of the most successful with his whole family "successfull" and corrupt. I have heard his non - sense many a times. Including his utterances about "Ravan" on a Diwali! He feels bad about "Ravan" being a villain! But he forgets that Ravan was a brahmin; the caste against whom he has spited enough venom in past and terrorised them worse than present day Mayawati or Laloo Prasad 50 years ago! So, he wants to save the brahmins or he wants them to become a Ravan? Only when a Brahmin is a Ravan, Karunanidhi will respect them!
He says Rama Sethu in Rameswaram was not made by Rama. Good enough! But he believes so because he does not know from which engineering college lord Rama had graduated! Not because there is going to be any prize for the winner of the correct answer, but because there is tender to break the bridge in which his family and partymen (interchangeable anyway) including A. RAJA, T. R. BALU, MARAN . . . are going to earn thousands of crores. I bet that project is a non sense and useless- we will come to know only after 50 years! These politicians will make it sure that the mass does not come to know it before all the beneficiaries die! But for ease of masses, NASA has started google earth - any one can open and see for himself the shallowness of the sea connecting Rameshwaram and Lanka. No two surfacing Island is more than 4 kilometers apart! Nowhere in the world the sea is so shallow and the earth is seen from the water surface so clearly . . . even from thousands of kilometers above by the satelite camera in such a narrow and long strip! . . . Who is blind here?
And I know that Mr. Karunanidhi is agood and successful writer. How can he insult the knowledge of VALMIKI (WHO BELONGED TO AN UNTOUCHABLE COMMUNITY TO WHOM KARUNANIDHI CLAIMS HIS DEDICATION - EVEN A DRAVIDIAN AS PER DEFINITION BY KARUNANIDHI) who wrote RAMAYAN - in original, mentioning each and every location beautifully. If not the "Lord" RAM, Engineers - NAL and NEEL who were DRAVIDIANS as per KARUNANIDHI standards, should be appreciated. Forget Rama, present day people whose existence are going to end "realy" within next few years are questioning his very existence; but what about Valmiki? Was he there or not? If not who wrote RAMAYANA? Should not we all respect his eloborate knowledge of the geography of this country! Specialy those who dont even want to think about other regions of this country. They should think thousand times before talking!
I hope by now you would have read the link http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/Aryan-culture-is-planting-superstitions-Karunanidhi/articleshow/6680639.cms
After Ayodhya verdict, Mr. Karunanidhi has said Aryans are spreading superstitions! I think the ultimate question I should ask him is Who is "ANARYA" among the judges? And most importantly, can Mr. X Y Z say for sure who all in this country are ARYANS and who all are Dravidians, and who are Mongols . . . and how many mixture . . . two or three types of them? and what about having a Racial count before a caste count?
I am sure Mr. X Y Z would not be able to say for sure whether he is an Aryan or Dravidian or a mixture or if so how many times from which side!
